Colorist. Editor. Storyteller.
In a radical departure from IT studies, I started a career in broadcasting in 2000, having stumbled into job as a Simunye continuity presenter on SABC1.
Highlights that followed were presenting Miss SA Teen, the World SOS Concert and STOOK! on DSTV's MKTV for 156 episodes. An acting career followed as Dean in Egoli, Johnny Bosman in Isidingo, Benji in 7de Laan, Sean van der Velde in Getroud met Rugby and Ben Geldenhuis in Binneland. Other credits included playing a turncoat Boer in MNET's Donkerland and metro-male Gert in Mynard Kraak's film Boer Soek Vrou. Sang and danced through a string of musicals, playing Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar and leading the cast of Hair as Claude. Oh, and DJ'ed for a while on Jacaranda FM.
It was during my time as presenter on STOOK! that I was recruited as a producer for the fledgling MK89, which was to become MKTV – South Africa’s first youth music channel, on DSTV. Here I quickly transitioned from production to post-production, which lead to the birth of my own company, Long Island Moving Pictures, in 2004.
Today Long Island Moving Pictures is a boutique post-production company, where I apply my talent for technology and story-telling as an offline and online editor, motion designer and colour artist. I work on feature films, television series, documentaries and commercials.
I am a member of the South African Guild of Editors, and have been awarded the right by the guild to use the SAGE acronym alongside my name in honour of my contribution to our industry. Previously I was a SAFTA (South African Film and Television Awards) judge for the technical categories of South African feature films that are annually submitted for adjudication.
HelloApartment is my other business, and this one lets me wear a hospitality hat - I own a portfolio of furnished apartments in Johannesburg and Cape Town which does vacation and corporate rentals, and a little guest house in the Eastern Freestate.
At present I am completing a B Com degree in Business Management.
